Viterbo University
Brand & Identity, Guidelines, Illustrations, Social Templates
Project.
Viterbo University sought to strengthen consistency across its overall brand identity and messaging across a wide range of departments, student groups, and institutional teams. While a past brand refresh had introduced updated assets, the university continued to face challenges with implementation, alignment, and clarity across a highly decentralized environment, including inconsistent use of logo assets, color systems, and supporting graphic elements.
At the core, there was also a broader goal of supporting college recruitment and more effectively communicating what Viterbo represents as an institution. However, the existing brand system was not fully supporting that narrative or clearly expressing who they were to prospective students and external audiences.
Solution.
Working closely with the Viterbo team and key stakeholders, the solution focused on strengthening both messaging alignment and the supporting brand system to improve consistency across the institution. Rather than a full rebrand, our approach built upon the existing identity with targeted refinements and a clear framework for application and communication.
This included refining core messaging to establish a more consistent tone, voice, and positioning, while also improving the usability of existing visual assets through a structured system of logos, color, typography, and supporting graphic elements. We clarified the relationship between the main university brand and internal departments, including athletics and sub-branded departments, and developed practical tools and templates to support consistent application across communications and materials.
