Glitch is the Soul in the Machine

Identity & Promotional Materials

Project.

Glitch is the Soul in the Machine is an international exhibition featuring works by artists from around the world who showcase emerging forms of new media art that playfully reveal the way digital technologies influence our perception of reality even as they corrupt the practice of everyday life. This exhibition is part of the annual International Digital Media and Arts Association (iDMAa) conference, this year held at Winona State University and the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. This client needed branding accompanied by a catalog to represent this exhibition as it traveled to the two chosen locations.

Solution.

My final solution was inspired by conference exhibition curator Mark Amerika’s “Glitch Ontology” manifesto-performance, “Glitch is the soul in the machine,” which asks the question, “how do works of contemporary art reveal what is broken, dysfunctional, hacked and cracked in our information-saturated culture?.” I chose glitching and broken elements to represent the show combined with common saturated glitch colors to encapsulate everything the exhibit would have to offer.
